You should aim to clean your diamond jewellery at least once a month. This can be done using a little warm soapy water and a toothbrush. Leave the item to soak in the solution for approx. 30mins, remove and scrub gently with the brush. Rinse in the solution and dry with a lint free cloth. This should remove all surface dirt and grease. Alternatively, you could use a solution of 1 part ammonia to 4 parts warm water, but make sure you leave your jewellery to soak for only about 10 minutes. Jewellery cleaning kits are also available to buy in many high street stores.

 

It is a good idea to have your jewellery professionally inspected at least once a year. Your jeweller should be check for loose stones or settings, or signs of wear. It is also a good idea to have your jewellery professionally cleaned at this time.

Although diamond is the hardest material on earth, without proper care and attention, it is susceptible to damage. A good setting will prevent most damage, but reasonable care is essential to ensure you can enjoy your investment for many years.

 

It is best to store your diamond jewellery separately. For example, using a cloth pouch for each individual item, or a fabric lined jewellery box with internal dividers will prevent your jewellery from coming into contact with other pieces and subsequently becoming scratched.

 

Basically any exposure to chemicals such as those found in hair spray, house hold products or even perspiration can accumulate and dull the surface of a diamond. Regular cleaning of a diamond is crucial if the stone's fire and brilliance is to be maintained.
